Sgt. Bertram 5K9

The Sgt. Bertram 5K-9 has been running for several years now, becoming an integral part of the community's calendar. In its inaugural year in 2018, over three hundred participants joined together to raise funds for both the 550 Foundation dedicated to Sergeant Bertram and a local charity. The race continues to grow each year, with proceeds supporting important causes close to the hearts of Charlestown residents.
The course venue is Fort Harrison State Park, offering a mixture of hard and dry surfaces that are well-suited for runners and walkers. The 5K-9 features a looped route through the park's natural beauty, winding around historic landmarks and past scenic views. Runners start from the main parking lot near the entrance to the park and finish back at the same spot after navigating the carefully laid-out course.
Race morning weather in August typically ranges between 19°C and 29°C with a feel like of 24°C, making for comfortable conditions despite the high humidity. The average wind speed is around 7.9 meters per second, so runners should be prepared to run into some light headwinds but will also enjoy periods of calm. Rainfall on race day is minimal at just 1.5mm, ensuring clear skies and sunshine for most participants.

Bibs will be distributed during a pre-race packet pickup on August 1st from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Charlestown Community Center. Participants must bring their own identification and proof of age, as well as any running gear they prefer for comfort throughout the race.
The start location is Fort Harrison State Park, located off Interstate 74 near downtown Charlestown. The event welcomes runners aged 16 and over, though children are encouraged to participate in the family-friendly atmosphere. First-time participants should arrive early on race day with their bibs, identification, and any running essentials.
