Sherwood Outpaw Jungle Own The Night

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre near Bilsthorpe in Nottinghamshire will host an exhilarating canicross race under the banner of "We Own The Night." This unique event takes place after dark on a varied trail that challenges both runners and their canine companions with a mix of terrain. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for navigating rugged paths.
Registration opens at 4:30 PM, giving racers ample time to familiarize themselves with the course layout before the race start at 6:30 PM. Spectators should plan to travel together with participants as parking is free but limited in space.
The event offers several categories tailored to different age groups and experience levels:
- Female 1 Dog: Divided into four age brackets (18-30, 31-45, 46-55 & 55+)
- Female 2 Dogs
- Male 1 Dog: Also divided into the same four age groups as female racers
- Male 2 Dogs
- Junior Category
Entry fees are £22 for adults and £12 for juniors. Sherwood Cani Sports Club members can enjoy a discount, paying just £20 or £10 respectively.
Safety is paramount at this event, adhering closely to the British Sleddog Sports Federation rules with some local adaptations. Racers must ensure their dogs are healthy, vaccinated according to BSAVA guidelines, and capable of completing the course safely given weather conditions and individual skill levels. Dogs under 12 months old cannot participate in any race; those between 12-18 months may only compete on shorter courses.
Participants have the opportunity to inspect the trail before their designated heat if approved by organizers. Shared trails require all runners to navigate independently while respecting other forest users, and passing rights are clearly defined with faster teams having priority except for the final stretch of the course.
Junior racers must be accompanied by an adult who does not contribute directly to racing efforts but ensures safety through physical attachment via a line if necessary. The event emphasizes responsible dog care and handling, prohibiting any devices that might harm dogs or compromise their welfare.
