Oswiu's Revenge is an exhilarating trail running adventure set around the Black Hambleton and Silton Woods, just south of Osmotherley. This 13.2-mile course invites runners to explore diverse terrain that includes forest tracks and ancient paths while offering breathtaking views of North Yorkshire Moors and the Vale of York. The route is steeped in local legend: Oswiu, a son of King Oswald, reportedly drowned near Roseberry Topping, leading his grief-stricken mother to pass away nearby. The village of Osmotherley was named after this poignant tale, adding an eerie charm to the race's narrative. Participants can expect challenging sections that might push them beyond their usual limits. Each finisher will receive a bespoke medal and certificate celebrating their accomplishment. A strict time limit of 4 hours ensures runners remain vigilant throughout the course. Competitors are advised to carry essential items like water, energy gels, and emergency supplies due to potentially unpredictable weather conditions in May. Navigation is aided by route markings on maps provided at registration and through a GPX file sent before race day. Marshals will be present along the way to assist runners with directions. Water stations offering refreshments such as Haribo sweets and vegetarian/vegan-friendly snacks are available for energy boosts throughout the course. The event kicks off from Square Corner near Osmotherley, where ample parking is provided at a nominal fee of £1 per vehicle, donated directly to the National Park. Registration begins at 09:15 am on Sunday, May 16th, with the race starting promptly at 10 am. Entry is limited to just 50 participants who must be at least 18 years old and register via SiEntries well in advance as no entries will be accepted on-site. A technical T-shirt can be purchased through SilverBack Trails for £18 from their online shop. Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed or harnessed due to sheep grazing areas, with a five-minute delay at the start line and adjusted time limits accordingly. As spring unfolds in North Yorkshire, runners will encounter vibrant tree blossoms, blooming Rhododendrons, playful lambs, nesting birds, and perhaps even glimpses of deer. This event promises not only physical challenge but also an immersive experience with nature’s rejuvenating beauty.
