Slow and Dirty

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the charm of Dorset’s history as you lace up your running shoes for the ‘Slow and Dirty’ race, a festive twist on an old railway line that now offers runners a smooth 19-kilometer journey through scenic landscapes. Despite its somewhat unflattering name—deriving from the days when it was known for frequent stops and outdated trains—the route today is anything but slow or dirty.
Starting in Sturminster Newton, you’ll follow the river Stour valley past quaint villages and historic landmarks like Shillingstone station, which has been beautifully restored. The route winds through picturesque Dorset countryside, offering runners a chance to connect with friends and supporters at various points along the way. With minimal incline throughout, this race is ideal for all levels of runner looking for an enjoyable run in late autumn.
The event features well-marked trails with clear direction signs every kilometer, ensuring that navigation remains simple even as you enjoy stunning views. Two first aid stations are strategically placed: one at Stourpaine Sports Club where restrooms are available, and another near the Meadows behind M&S in Blandford. Both locations offer ample parking for spectators to cheer on runners.
Finishers will cross the line just a short distance from ‘The Shack’ bar at Clapcotts Farm, Spetisbury, which provides festive mulled wine or cider along with mince pies and other refreshments. The event aims to be an informal family gathering in anticipation of Christmas, so feel free to dress up in your holiday gear for the run.
For those who need it, pre-booked transport is available at £12 per person to shuttle runners from finish back to start or vice versa post-race. This makes it easy to enjoy all aspects of this charming race without worrying about logistics.
Join us as we celebrate the end of another year with a spirited run along Dorset’s historic railway path, making memories that will last long after the season has passed.
Enjoy the festive atmosphere and stunning scenery at one of the most scenic races in the region. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience history while running through some of England's loveliest landscapes.
