Southern Fried 50/50

Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 16, 2025, as Columbus, Georgia prepares to host its eighth annual Southern Fried 50/50 race. This year’s edition promises an unforgettable journey through the scenic trails and vibrant landscapes of this historic city.
The event kicks off at Fall Line Trace, Psalmond Road Trail Head, where runners will embark on a course that weaves through some of Georgia's most captivating natural settings. The route includes stretches along the Fall Line Trace and Dragonfly Trail, offering stunning vistas of the Chattahoochee River. As you run, expect to encounter urban whitewater adventures and lush greenery at Oxbow Meadows.
Highlights include passing by Columbus State University and the National Infantry Museum, providing a blend of historical significance and natural beauty. This event is not just about pushing your limits; it’s an immersive experience that celebrates the unique charm and spirit of the region.
Given that August in Georgia can be warm, participants are advised to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and consider using sweatbands for optimal comfort during their run. The race offers three distance options: 25k, 50k, or a grueling 50-mile challenge. With only 100 runners allowed this year, the Southern Fried 50/50 fosters an intimate atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support.
Generous cutoff times ensure that all participants have ample time to complete their chosen distance: 10 hours for the 50k route and 14 hours for those tackling the full marathon. Aid stations along the way will provide Southern-style comfort food, including fried chicken, Georgia-grown watermelons, and sweet tea, ensuring runners are fueled throughout their journey.
Parking and packet pickup are available at Midland Elementary School, just a short walk from the start line. Packet pickup begins early on race day at 6:00 a.m., with the official start time set for 7:00 a.m. sharp.
