Embark on a monumental journey across North Carolina's diverse landscapes with the inaugural Tour of NC-Pain Free? This epic self-supported race challenges runners to traverse over 500 miles from Sparta to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, near Nags Head. The adventure begins at dawn when racers depart in vans or buses from Waco, a secure and monitored location provided by the race director.
With just under two weeks—336 hours—to complete the course, participants must rely on their own logistics and determination to navigate through North Carolina’s varied terrain, which includes mountain ranges, rolling hills, and coastal plains. Racers will encounter cut-off times every 37 miles starting from May 11th; missing a second deadline may result in disqualification for safety reasons.
Upon reaching the finish line at Jockey's Ridge State Park by no later than May 24th, runners are rewarded with a custom finisher’s award and exclusive hoodie. The race director reserves the right to defer entries on an individual basis or cancel them if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances such as road closures or extreme weather conditions.
Participants who complete this grueling challenge will be treated to accommodations near Nags Head for their final night, courtesy of the event organizers. For those with tight travel schedules, shuttles are available to transport racers back to Waco from Jockey’s Ridge after they finish.
