Splash of Solidarity: Presented by District of Columbia Aquatics Club and the Potomac Riverkeeper Network

About the Event

The Splash of Solidarity returns to Oxon Hill, Maryland on Saturday, August 1, 2026, bringing together swimmers for a day of aquatic adventure along the Potomac River in National Harbor. This annual event, presented by District of Columbia Aquatics Club (DCAC) and the Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN), continues to be an important fundraiser and community gathering spot for open water enthusiasts.
As summer’s sun begins its descent on the eastern horizon over Oxon Hill, a quiet hum fills National Harbor. The day is warm but not stifling, with breezes off the river providing welcome relief from humidity that clings like an old friend in August air. Swimmers gather along the waterfront, their gear spread out across the boardwalk as they prepare for the 2.5K and 5K options available to them on this stretch of water. The event has a familiar rhythm, one set by years of commitment from both DCAC and PRKN.
Established in its current incarnation but built upon decades of tradition through earlier iterations like “Swim for Life,” the Splash of Solidarity continues to draw participants eager not only to test their endurance but also to support vital causes. Over 200 swimmers typically take part, each lap around a marked course dedicated to raising funds and awareness for PRKN’s ongoing efforts in water quality monitoring along with DCAC’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ representation within competitive swimming circles. Swimmers come from across the region, united by their shared passion for open waters and their commitment to making a difference.
The National Harbor waterfront serves as both starting line and finish point for this year's event, offering swimmers two distinct routes depending on whether they opt for the 2.5K or full 5K distance. The course itself winds around buoys strategically placed in the Potomac River, marking out a clear path that loops back to where it began. Swimmers can expect smooth transitions and easy navigation along this well-trodden route.
Registration takes place online through RunSignUp at https://runsignup.com/Race/MD/OxonHill/DCACSplashofSolidarity with fees ranging from $75 for USMS members to $95 for non-members, reflecting the additional cost associated with completing a one-event form. Bib pickup will be available on-site prior to race day or during specific hours leading up to it at designated locations within Oxon Hill.
As swimmers lace up their goggles and prepare for the water’s welcoming embrace, they do so under clear blue skies that promise another warm yet comfortable morning along the Potomac River in National Harbor. With temperatures hovering around 24 degrees Celsius and winds gently blowing off the river, conditions are optimal for a challenging but enjoyable swim.
