Battersea Park has long been home to one of London's most beloved racing communities, hosting races for over four decades. However, due to recent limitations set by ENABLE, the managing body overseeing events within Battersea Park, we are now able to offer only three 5K races in June and September, alongside our annual Relay race on July 21st. Organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team since 1981, these races cater to a diverse group of runners including competitive club members, seasoned trailblazers, fitness enthusiasts, and newcomers. Each event promises a welcoming atmosphere, dedicated volunteers, professional management, and flat courses that are runner-friendly. The 5K race features two laps around traffic-free avenues within Battersea Park. The course is UK Athletics (UKA) certified for accuracy and manually timed to meet UKA standards. Race HQ is located on Carriage Drive East between the Boating Lake and Millennium Arena running track, just a stone's throw from Pear Tree Cafe. Participants must register online in advance; race numbers will be mailed out one week before the event or until registration closes three days prior if the race reaches capacity. The start line is approximately 300 meters away from Race HQ. A bag drop area at Race HQ provides convenience for participants, though valuables should not be left unattended. Battersea Park offers public toilets and free parking after 5pm inside Rosary Gate Car Park or Chelsea Gate Car Park. Showers and changing rooms are available at the Millennium Arena for a fee of £3 per use. Course records stand as testament to the competitive nature of these races, with times ranging from 14:12 (men under 50) to 27:51 (women aged 80-89). The event is inclusive and welcomes entrants identifying as Female, Male or Non-Binary. While results are categorized by gender for ranking purposes due to IAAF rules, non-binary times are recorded in the overall race results. Inspired by Sri Chinmoy, an athlete and meditation teacher who recognized running's potential to foster concentration, confidence, determination, peace of mind, and happiness, these races aim to provide a platform where runners can transcend their limits and achieve personal goals.
