About the Event

Embark on an evening adventure through the misty hills of November during the NWNL Orienteering Race. This challenging course offers three routes tailored for various skill levels: Orange (3.1km with 95m ascent), Green (4.2km and 130m climb), and Blue (a more demanding 5.5km trek with a 205-meter elevation gain). Each route is peppered with strategic controls, inviting you to navigate through the crisp autumn air under starlit skies.
The race begins between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM from a starting point accessible via an easy walk up a gentle slope. The finish line awaits after approximately 45 minutes of racing, though courses remain open until 8:30 PM for those who need extra time to explore the terrain.
Competitors will find themselves traversing through uncharted territory mapped at scale 1:7500 by John Embrey, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and technical challenges. The event promises an exhilarating mix of woodland trails and open hillside, illuminated only by your headlamp on this chilly November evening.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register online for guaranteed entry and map access before the deadline in early November when fees increase slightly. Remember to bring warm clothing, waterproof gear, a spare headtorch, and a whistle as safety measures against unpredictable weather conditions.
After crossing the finish line, download your results at the designated area where first aid is available should you need it. Detailed event information can be found on SROC’s website, along with contact details for organizers John Embrey and Martyn Roome if any questions arise prior to race day.
Competitors will experience a thrilling orienteering night under the stars in one of England's most scenic landscapes, making this event an unforgettable addition to your racing calendar.
