St Andrews Autumn Duathlon 2026: A Spectacular Scottish Challenge The St Andrews Autumn Duathlon offers two thrilling race options for athletes of all levels. The main Sprint distance duathlon features a challenging course that includes a 5km run, followed by a grueling 25km bike ride, and concludes with another 2.5km run to the finish line. For those new to multisport events or looking for a more manageable challenge, the Novice event is designed as an introduction, comprising two runs of 2.5km each sandwiching a shorter 10km cycle. Both races are open to participants aged 15 and older; however, competitors under 18 must provide explicit parental consent via email at triathlon@st-andrews.ac.uk before registering. The event is governed by the rules set forth by Triathlon Scotland and the British Triathlon Federation, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all athletes. The Sprint race begins with an energizing run along scenic coastal paths in St Andrews. Participants then transition to their bikes at the designated area within the cricket pavilion before embarking on a 25km ride that winds through picturesque countryside and historic townscapes. The final leg returns runners back into the heart of St Andrews, where they can feel the excitement build as spectators cheer them on. The Novice event follows a similar format but is tailored for beginners with shorter distances to ease athletes into the multisport experience. It includes two 2.5km runs and a manageable 10km cycle through familiar routes around the university campus and local parks, providing an ideal introduction to duathlon racing without overwhelming newcomers. Registration opens at 8:15 AM on race day within the cricket pavilion, with transition areas open from 8:30 AM onwards. Waves start for both events will be staggered throughout the morning, ensuring a smooth flow of athletes through each stage of the course. The Blue Wave kicks off promptly at 9:40 AM, followed by the Yellow Wave at 9:55 AM and the Novice wave starting at 10:10 AM. Participants are encouraged to become members of Triathlon Scotland for additional benefits such as discounted race entries, access to exclusive offers from sponsors, and eligibility for Scottish National Championship titles. Membership packages range from Essential to Ultimate, offering varying levels of perks including insurance coverage and product discounts. Parking is available at the University Sports Centre and Buchanan Gardens, with ample free parking also provided at Petheram Bridge car park. Refunds are issued up until 14 days before the event date for those who need to withdraw; however, no refunds will be given after September 30th, 2026. Join us this autumn in St Andrews and experience a unique blend of athleticism and Scottish charm at the St Andrews Autumn Duathlon.
