St Charles Old Settlers Gateway 5K/1K Fun Run

The St Charles Old Settlers Gateway 5K/1K Fun Run returns to the historic streets of St Charles in Iowa on July 18th, 2026. This event, now in its fifth year, has become a beloved tradition for both locals and visitors alike.
Race morning begins at sunrise over the picturesque Imes Covered Bridge, surrounded by lush greenery and the quiet beauty of the early-morning air. As participants gather, the town buzzes with excitement, offering a festive atmosphere as families and friends prepare to support their runners. The 5K course meanders through the historic center of St Charles, providing a mix of urban charm and natural scenery.
Over the years, this race has grown in popularity, attracting more than 300 participants each year who come together for a shared cause: supporting local youth scholarships. This event not only brings communities closer but also highlights the rich history and vibrant spirit of St Charles as Gateway to the bridges of Madison County.
The course venue is marked by its hard and dry surface, making it ideal for runners of all levels. The 5K race starts at Imes Covered Bridge and winds through downtown streets before returning on a loop. A notable feature along the route includes the historic buildings that line these streets, offering scenic views during your run.
Starting from the bridge, the course offers minimal elevation changes but does have some turns which add to its charm. There are no official aid stations planned this year due to the dry and sunny weather expected on race day; however, participants can expect to see local businesses along the route offering refreshments for a small fee. The 5K and 1K fun run both start at 7:00 AM sharp.
