St. Charles Runners Club Flat Five

The St. Charles Runners Club Flat Five returns to St. Charles, Missouri on August 2nd for its 45th year. This event features a five-mile run alongside shorter options like the one-mile Fun Run/Walk and Toddler Trot.
Race morning in the park sees participants gathering at Riverfront Park by the picturesque banks of the Mississippi River. The atmosphere is lively with spectators, volunteers, and vendors setting up for the day. As runners line up on Race Street, they can see the historic Main Street just a short distance away. By 7 am, the temperature hovers around 25 degrees Celsius, making it comfortable but not too warm.
This long-standing event has been a cornerstone of local athletics for decades. Since its inception in 1982, thousands have participated each year to support scholarships and promote community health through running. The Toddler Trot adds an extra element of fun with little ones striding alongside their parents or guardians around the park's perimeter.
The course is entirely on hard and dry surface, making for a smooth run along Riverfront Park’s paths. Runners start from the main entrance off Race Street before looping back towards the finish line near the Mississippi River overlook. The one-mile Fun Run/Walk offers a family-friendly route that winds through gardens and picnic areas. There are no aid stations planned but water is always available at Riverfront Park's facilities.
