Step into the rich history of ancient Greece by participating in the 9th Half Marathon "In the Footsteps of the Sacred Way," scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2026. This prestigious race retraces a route that was once part of the revered Procession of the Eleusinian Mysteries, an event steeped in ancient traditions and spiritual significance.
The Municipality of Eleusis, alongside partners including OPANDA (Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of Athens), Egaleo Town Hall, Chaidari, and Aspropyrgos, invites runners to experience a journey through time. The route begins at the historic Agora in Athens before winding its way along the sacred path that leads to Eleusis, where participants will feel connected to an age-old ritual.
In addition to the half marathon, there is also a 5 km race for those looking to explore this historical setting without committing to such a long distance. Both events offer runners the chance to immerse themselves in the cultural and scenic beauty of Attica while challenging their physical limits on varied terrain that includes both urban streets and rural paths.
Participants can collect their participation packages from Monday, September 1, 2025 through Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Collection points are located at the Directorate of Education, Youth, Culture & Sports building in Elefsina (Pangalou & Kimonos 11) and Egaleo Town Hall near "Agia Marina" Metro station.
