Celebrate 50 years of galactic adventure with the Star Wars-themed Time Challenge Run, taking place on Sunday, June 20, 2027. This unique race offers runners and walkers an opportunity to explore stunning trails along the River Wear in Durham while enjoying breathtaking views of Durham Cathedral. The event is open to all abilities, featuring a flexible distance format that allows participants to choose their own adventure within a 7-hour window. The minimum requirement for entry is completing a lap, which measures either 4.37 miles or 7 kilometers, depending on course conditions. For those aiming higher, the route can accommodate distances ranging from half marathons (three laps) and full marathons (six laps), to ultra runs of seven laps or more. A 50-kilometer distance is also available for ambitious runners. The scenic trail winds through a picturesque stretch of the River Wear, providing participants with stunning views of Durham's historic cathedral. The course is fully signed, making navigation easy even for those who are new to trail running. Additionally, younger runners can take advantage of designated turn points at 3 kilometers and 5 kilometers to adhere to UK Athletics distance rules. Membership benefits include a lower entry fee—£10 less than the full price—and guaranteed entry into events along with exclusive mini-me medal pins awarded for each race attended. Memberships are available through logging into your profile and purchasing one of the membership schemes provided on the event website. UK Athletics-licensed clubs can also benefit from a £2 discount per runner, ensuring that everyone has access to this unforgettable experience regardless of their club affiliation or running background. Aid stations will be set up at the start/finish line where participants can find an array of beverages and snacks. Vegan options are available for those with specific dietary requirements. All finishers who complete a minimum distance of 3 kilometers receive a themed medal, while additional pins celebrating half-marathon, marathon, ultra-run, and 50-kilometer achievements will be awarded to runners reaching the corresponding distances. On race day, participants can enjoy a goody bag filled with treats as they celebrate their accomplishment. The event venue offers toilet facilities and changing areas for convenience, along with an unstaffed bag drop area near the start/finish line where personal belongings may be left at your own risk. Parking is available in city center locations on pay-and-display terms; however, runners are advised not to use the Durham Amateur Rowing Club car park. Detailed race day instructions will be sent via email a week before the event and can also be picked up upon arrival at registration. Join us for this special edition of the Time Challenge Run as we honor 50 years of Star Wars with an unforgettable run through one of England's most beautiful landscapes.
