Stroud Trails

About the Event

Stroud Trails Event invites runners to explore an array of stunning trails, hills, towpaths, and disused railway tracks within the Cotswold region. Nestled in an area renowned for its natural beauty, this race offers participants a challenging yet rewarding experience through diverse landscapes.
The event features both trail runs and longer endurance routes, each offering unique terrain and breathtaking views. The Quarter Marathon route begins at the common behind Minchinhampton School and follows local trails before merging with the towpath along the Severn-Thames Canal. This scenic path takes runners past historic landmarks like Ebley Warf and Stonehouse, eventually leading to Kings Stanley.
From there, the course ascends into Selsley Common via disused railway tracks and rural pathways. The ascent up Pen Woods culminates in a climb of over 600 feet, with panoramic views stretching across the Stroud Valley towards the Forest of Dean. This section tests runners' endurance while rewarding them with stunning vistas.
Before race day, participants are encouraged to prepare thoroughly for the varying terrain and weather conditions typical of mid-spring. Proper footwear and attire that accommodates both flat trails and steep ascents is essential. Race organizers recommend arriving early to ensure a smooth registration process at Minchinhampton School Hall.
Registration opens one hour before each event start time, allowing ample opportunity for athletes to collect their race numbers and shoe tags. UKA-affiliated runners must present valid identification upon check-in; failure to do so may result in additional fees on the day of the race.
On-site facilities include portable toilets located near the school car park and public restrooms nearby. Runners are reminded not to use church facilities without permission, as this could lead to disqualification from future events organized by Iamoutdoors Running Events.
The safety briefing is mandatory for all participants ten minutes before their respective start times. This session covers essential information about the course layout and any potential hazards along the way. To ensure everyone's safety, headphones or music players are discouraged during the race due to reduced awareness of surroundings.
Water stations are strategically placed throughout the route at key checkpoints as well as near the finish line within Minchinhampton School Hall. For ultra-distance runners tackling longer routes like the Ultra40 and Marathon distances, some water points offer limited supplies on a self-service basis.
First aid support is available both at the start/finish area and along designated checkpoints for quick assistance in case of injury or emergency during the race.
The Stroud Trails Event promises an unforgettable journey through picturesque landscapes, challenging terrain, and supportive communities. Whether you're racing competitively or simply enjoying the outdoors, this event offers a memorable experience that showcases the best of the Cotswolds.
