Summer District 5k & Half

The Summer District 5k & Half returns to Washington, District of Columbia on August 16th in the heart of Georgetown near the Nation’s Capital.
This event takes place along the picturesque Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path, a scenic route that offers runners breathtaking views and a taste of the area's rich history. The 5K begins at Fletcher’s Boat House, winding through charming streets before returning to its start point. For those looking for an even greater challenge, there is also a half marathon option.
The atmosphere on race morning in Georgetown is vibrant with local businesses open early, offering refreshments and encouragement along the route. Spectators line the canal path, creating an energetic yet supportive environment for all participants.
Both races have been running since 2014, having established themselves as key events in the community calendar. Over the years, thousands of runners from various backgrounds have joined this tradition, contributing to a growing sense of camaraderie and friendly competition among local residents and visitors alike. The race supports scholarships for area youth through its fundraising efforts.
The course venue is primarily on hard and dry surface paths along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. Both the 5K and half marathon start from Fletcher’s Boat House, with the latter finishing near the Potomac Boat Club. There are no aid stations planned as the route passes through an area of minimal traffic. The weather in August can be quite warm; expect temperatures ranging between a low of 19°C to a high of 28.9°C, with humidity levels around 70.9%, making it feel like about 24°C on average. Wind speeds are usually around 8.5 kilometers per hour.
