Summer Trail Classic

The Summer Trail Classic, part of the 2026 Dick Pond Athletics Darn Tough Trail Race Series, invites runners on August 23rd for an unforgettable journey through the picturesque Paul Douglas Forest Preserve. This event offers three distinct distances: a challenging 4-mile course, a moderate 9.5-mile route, and a rewarding 13-mile adventure.
Starting at 7:30 am sharp, participants will traverse the forest’s twisting single-track trails, offering both beauty and technical terrain. The preserve's natural landscape provides a true trail running experience, with varied elevations and scenic views that promise an exhilarating run through nature.
For those seeking a shorter challenge, the 4-mile route is perfect; however, only walkers are permitted on this course to ensure safety and fairness among all participants. Beyond noon, support services will be removed from all courses due to operational needs.
The event benefits Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr), an organization dedicated to trail maintenance and education in cycling. CAMBr’s mission includes promoting responsible use of trails and fostering a community spirit among all outdoor enthusiasts. If race day conditions are unfavorable—specifically, if the trails at Paul Douglas Forest Preserve are wet due to significant rainfall—the event will be relocated to the asphalt bike path within the preserve.
