Welcome to Wyresdale Park, where nature and comfort meet for an unforgettable swimming experience. Nestled amidst serene surroundings, this picturesque venue offers a tranquil setting perfect for both beginners and seasoned swimmers alike. Upon arrival at the jetty, you'll find ample space to leave your belongings in storage boxes or on hooks along the fence if needed. A member of staff will greet you here, ready to provide any necessary instructions and assist with borrowing tow floats—essential equipment that enhances safety during the swim. Wetsuits are available for hire but must be requested beforehand at a cost of £10; they are not kept onsite. The summer months bring an opportunity to earn badges such as "My First Swim" or "My First Lap," while winter enthusiasts can proudly complete their "Swim Through Winter" badge. During your swim, if you encounter any difficulties, simply lie on your back and raise one arm for assistance; safety kayakers are always nearby. The lake is marked with buoys to guide swimmers through circuits of approximately 400 meters each. Swimming between the blue buoys near shore should be avoided due to shallow waters used by fishermen. Brightly colored swim caps or bobble hats are recommended, especially during winter months, for better visibility and warmth. While there are no changing facilities available on-site, you can arrive in your swimming attire or change at your vehicle before heading down to the jetty. Parking is conveniently located near the venue, with additional overflow parking accessible via a small bridge and woodland footpath leading directly to the lake. The Applestore Café offers refreshments nearby, along with toilets situated outside behind the café and inside the building next door. For those traveling by car from Preston or Lancaster, detailed directions are provided for easy navigation to Wyresdale Park. For public transport users, Stagecoach bus 40 is a convenient option, stopping at Cabus Gubberford Lane after approximately 45 minutes from Preston Station.
