Tails in the Wind invites you to join us on Saturday, May 1, 2027, for Calgary's unique dog mile race and brand-new 5k distance. This year’s edition promises an unforgettable experience for both humans and their four-legged companions. The event takes place at a picturesque park with scenic paths that wind through lush greenery and offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Whether you're aiming to set a personal record or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll, this net-downhill course is designed to be swift and enjoyable. Participants can choose between two divisions: The Dog Divisions for those who want to run alongside their furry friends, and Human-Only Divisions for solo runners looking for an unimpeded challenge. Staggered wave starts will begin at 9:30 AM to ensure ample space on the path throughout the race. The one-mile course begins near Snowy Owl Picnic Area and finishes near Bluebird Picnic Area, offering a point-to-point route that descends gently from start to finish. The 5k distance starts in the heart of Bluebird Picnic Area and loops back for an equally flat and fast experience. Both courses have been meticulously measured using precise wheel technology to guarantee accuracy. Participants are reminded to adhere to course etiquette by staying on the right side of pedestrian paths, except when overtaking others. As this race shares its space with public pedestrians and potentially other events, cooperation is key for a smooth day out. The post-race celebration at Bluebird Picnic Area includes finish line photos captured in front of a bubble machine, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and laughter. Refreshments such as fruit, granola bars, and the ultimate doggy buffet complete with treats, peanut butter, and plenty of water are available for everyone’s enjoyment. This event is proudly partnered with the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS), ensuring that every registration contributes to helping animals in need. Participants are encouraged to set up fundraising pages during their sign-up process and invite friends and family to support them financially, aiming to raise a minimum of $1000 for this worthy cause. To ensure safety and harmony among all participants, please follow the rules: keep your dog on a standard leash (no more than 6 feet), limit each participant to one dog, make sure dogs are up-to-date with vaccinations and comfortable in crowded settings, and always clean up after them. Additional bags and bins will be provided along the course. Join us at Tails in the Wind for an event that combines fitness, fun, and a meaningful contribution to animal welfare.
