Take a Ride on the Wild Side

Experience the beauty of Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge during Take a Ride on the Wild Side, an annual non-competitive bike ride that takes place each October. This unique event offers three routes tailored to different skill levels: a family-friendly 6-mile loop, perfect for beginners; an intermediate 14-mile route; and a challenging 31-mile course designed for experienced riders.
The ride begins at the charming community building in Kirwin, Kansas, from where you'll embark on your chosen adventure. Each route offers breathtaking views of wildlife, birds, trees, prairie landscapes, and wildflowers—making every pedal a scenic journey around the reservoir. The terrain varies with chalk roads, dirt paths, and 4 miles of highway (on the longer routes), including hills and winding sections that add an extra layer of challenge.
