The Animal Run 5k Tofurkey Trot

About the Event

Join us for the 3rd Annual Run/Walk and Canicross Tofurkey Trot, a unique fundraising event that combines human runners with their canine companions. This community-driven race not only raises funds for animal welfare organizations but also promotes veganism as a way to support health and sustainability.
Canicross is an exciting sport where runners are paired with one or two dogs, connected by a bungee cord or elastic line. Runners wear specialized waists belts or hip harnesses designed to minimize back strain on both the human and canine participants. Dogs also use specific harnesses that allow for unrestricted movement during races.
The event kicks off at 8:00 am with registration opening in a large, free parking lot next to Volleyball Sand Court (14001 Monarch Bay Dr, San Leandro, CA 94577). For those who prefer street parking, it is available nearby. The race itself commences promptly at 8:55 am.
For adult participants in the solo run category, registration costs $45 for a 5K and $45 for a mile walk or dog walking (with late fees of $10). Canicross teams can register for either a 5K ($65) or a 1-mile event ($55), including an additional processing fee. Kids aged 12 and under can participate in the fun at reduced rates, with solo runners paying $35 and canicross teams $45.
Race day begins with registration opening from 8:00 am to 8:45 am, followed by a welcome speech. Canicrossers start their race at exactly 8:55 am, while the 5K solo runners and mile walkers follow suit one minute later. A vegan coffee and carb station will be available for refreshments starting from 9:30 am.
The event concludes with an awards ceremony to celebrate all participants' efforts in support of animal welfare and sustainable living. Special thanks go out to our breakfast sponsor, Boichik Bagels of Berkeley CAT, and prize sponsor Wholesome Bakery for their contributions.
