The Beacon Bash

The Beacon Bash is set to take place on Sunday, December 6th, 2026, starting from the Appley Bridge Scout Hut located at Appley Lane North WN6 9AD. This annual charity challenge raises funds for two local organizations: Appley Bridge Scouts and The Brick Wigan.
Participants will embark on a route that stretches just over 20 miles in length with an elevation gain of approximately 2345 feet. Much of the course follows footpaths, but runners should be prepared to navigate some sections along roads as well as cross main road intersections where caution is advised.
The trail is marked intermittently by black and yellow tape for guidance, yet it’s recommended that competitors rely on GPS or a detailed route map available online through Strava. Given there are no marshals stationed throughout the course, self-navigation skills will be crucial to staying on track. A water station is provided at mile 12 atop Parbold Hill where runners can hydrate and rest briefly.
Competitors must adhere to strict time limits: an intermediate checkpoint cut-off of 12:30 PM at Parbold Hill’s refreshment stop, followed by a final finish line deadline of 3:30 PM. Those who miss the earlier milestone will be directed onto a shorter route back towards the event's conclusion.
