About the Event

Chopwell Woods Trail Runs – A Return Home for Runners and Their Pups!
Step back into history at Chopwell Woods, the birthplace of WILD DEER EVENTS. This picturesque woodland setting has been hosting trail runners since 2019 and continues to offer an inviting atmosphere with its annual Summer Trail Runs & PICNIC.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will be rewarded with a medal, refreshments from a buffet spread, and a complimentary drink at the event’s end point.
Chopwell Woods is nestled in Rowlands Gill near Gateshead, covering 360 hectares of diverse woodland managed by Forestry England. The site offers an enchanting backdrop for runners to explore its winding trails during their chosen distance.
Choose from three routes: a 5-mile lap that can be repeated as desired, or challenge yourself with the longer 10 and 15 mile options. All runs start at 5:00pm, providing ample daylight for scenic exploration under the late summer sun.
Cani-cross enthusiasts are welcome to bring their well-behaved dogs on a leash, adding an extra layer of companionship to your run. Ensure that each runner is accompanied by only one dog during the event.
Accurate live chip timing will be provided by Timing Up North, ensuring every moment of your journey through Chopwell Woods is recorded with precision.
While free parking is available at the site, space is limited and organizers encourage participants to walk or carpool to minimize environmental impact. Join us for a memorable day in one of the region’s most cherished woodlands!
