The Drift, an iconic endurance race that has challenged athletes for the past century, invites you to experience Wyoming's untamed wilderness on its rugged terrain and unpredictable weather. Set against the backdrop of the state’s historic cattle drift tradition, this 28-mile or 13-mile course is a true test of grit and resilience. Racers will navigate through snow-covered mountains and wide-open desert landscapes under conditions that can be both awe-inspiring and daunting. Temperatures may dip below zero degrees Celsius, winds might howl relentlessly, and heavy snowfall could blanket the trails in feet of white. This is not your typical manicured course; it’s a raw, challenging journey through nature's winter wonderland. Choose between skiing, fat biking, or running to tackle this diverse landscape. Aid stations are sparse but reliable, with one notably relocated from mile 28 to mile 6 due to recent fire risks in the north end of the route. The race starts early on a Sunday morning, preceded by a prerace meeting for all participants at 30 minutes before the start. For those who prefer not to compete, volunteer opportunities are available to help make this event possible while experiencing its unique atmosphere firsthand. Join us and embrace the spirit of Wyoming’s wild beauty and challenges come March 14th, 2027. Join The Drift for an unforgettable adventure where nature sets the terms and true grit is rewarded.
