Dive into Day 2 of our Dun Holm 5 in 5 Days Challenge, featuring an exhilarating route around Durham. This event celebrates everything that makes Durham special and offers runners the chance to earn a medal adorned with the city's name. Scheduled for Friday, May 28th, 2027, starting at 9:30 AM sharp, this challenge is tailored for those seeking new adventures in running or walking. Participants can choose to enter all five days consecutively or opt for individual day entries as they please. The event takes place at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Green Lane in Old Elvet (DH1 3JU). It’s licensed by the Trail Running Association and adheres strictly to UK Athletics rules, providing a safe environment for runners of all ages. Members of affiliated clubs can enjoy an entry discount of £2. Runners have full control over their distance during this 7-hour time challenge. The minimum requirement is just 3km, but options range from the half marathon (13 laps) to ultra distances starting at 7 or more laps. A 50km milestone also awaits those who push themselves further. Younger participants can navigate through designated turn points for shorter runs that comply with UK Athletics guidelines. The course winds along a picturesque stretch of the River Wear, offering stunning views of Durham Cathedral and encompassing both flat terrain and gentle trails. Well-marked signs ensure easy navigation without any need for advanced route-finding skills. Regardless of your skill level or pace, this event welcomes everyone—from casual walkers to seasoned runners—promising an inclusive atmosphere where all achievements are celebrated equally. Upon completing at least 3km, every participant receives a themed medal designed especially for the occasion. For those aiming higher, distance pins (Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, Ultra) are available as additional rewards starting from half-marathon distances and beyond. As part of your reward, all finishers will also receive goody bags filled with treats to enjoy post-race. Vegan runners have their own specially curated selection too! Aid stations set up at the start/finish line provide a variety of refreshments including drinks and snacks like crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies—many options are vegan-friendly. Special recognition awaits those marking significant milestones in this event; whether it's your 50th marathon or any other notable achievement. Let us know ahead of time so we can prepare an honorary number for you! Facilities at the venue include toilets and changing areas near race HQ along with a bag drop area close to both start and finish lines, though participants must manage their own belongings as staff won't be monitoring them continuously. Parking is available through pay-and-display options in the city center or surrounding streets; however, runners should avoid using Durham Amateur Rowing Club's parking lot.
