The FAOA Army Navy Game 5k & 10k

The FAOA Army Navy Game 5k & 10k returns to Alexandria, Virginia on December 12th. This event brings together runners of all kinds—cadets, midshipmen, veterans, service members, family members, and proud supporters—to run with purpose before the biggest rivalry in college football.
Race morning finds participants gathering at Old Town Park, a scenic location nestled between the historic city center and the Potomac River. The atmosphere is electric as runners check their bibs, lace up their shoes, and prepare for what promises to be an invigorating morning run through the cool autumn air. Alexandria's charm adds to the day’s excitement; quaint shops and restaurants line nearby streets.
This marks the second annual event organized by Bishop’s Events in partnership with The Foreign Area Officer Association (FAOA). Last year saw 1,200 runners participate, raising over $35,000 for scholarships that benefit military families. The race not only supports those who serve but also fosters a sense of community among Alexandria's residents and visitors.
The course venue is Old Town Park, offering a mix of paved paths and slight inclines suitable for both the 10K and 5K runners. Notable features include the scenic Potomac River trail and the historic brick walls that line parts of the route. The start and finish will be at the park’s central plaza, where runners can enjoy post-race refreshments and mingling with fellow participants.
Aid stations are strategically placed along both courses to ensure hydration for all runners. On race day, expect an average wind speed of 10.5 km/h, which can make running feel slightly cooler than it appears. The temperature will range from a minimum of 32°F (0.3°C) to a maximum of 47°F (8.5°C), with humidity levels around 70%, creating conditions that are comfortable but brisk.

Bibs can be picked up one week before the event from Alexandria City Hall between 9 AM and 6 PM. Bring your printed confirmation email or photo ID.
The race will begin at Old Town Park on December 12th, with a mandatory age requirement of being 18 years old to participate in either distance. First-time runners should ensure they bring their own water bottles or hydration packs for the aid station stops along the course.
