The Hellbender 10k

The Hellbender 10k returns to Norton, Virginia on October 3rd, 2026, challenging runners with a rigorous climb through the Cumberland Mountain range. The race starts in downtown Norton and ascends to High Knob's summit at an elevation of 4,200 feet. With more than two thousand feet of elevation gain over its 10K course, this event is renowned for testing both endurance and determination.
On race morning, participants will face a setting that combines the natural beauty of mountain landscapes with the bustling energy of early autumn in Norton. Temperatures typically range from around nine to nineteen degrees Celsius, though it often feels closer to fourteen due to moderate winds averaging just under ten kilometers per hour. High humidity at seventy percent and low rainfall risk mean runners can expect mostly dry conditions but should be prepared for cooler temperatures.
This is the 13th year of The Hellbender 10k, which has become a significant event in Norton's running calendar.
