The Monster Dash 5K

Experience the thrill of the Halloween season at the annual Monster Dash 5K, set to return on October 30th for its sixth edition. This beloved community race will take place at the bustling Arizona Boardwalk in Scottsdale, offering runners an exhilarating and fantastical course filled with monsters and costumed characters.
Race morning begins under the soft glow of streetlights along the Arizona Boardwalk walkways as participants gather to start their journey. The area is already transforming into its evening ambiance, with vendors setting up for business. Despite a high humidity level at 29.5%, temperatures remain comfortable around 25.7°C and mild breezes keep conditions pleasant.
Since its inception in 2021, the Monster Dash has grown to become an essential part of Scottsdale’s fall calendar. This year, over 3,600 participants are expected to join for a night filled with fun, frights, and camaraderie. The event not only entertains but also supports local scholarships through efforts by StartLine Racing.
The course is set on hard-packed dirt with a dry surface, ensuring smooth footing throughout the 5 kilometers or approximately 3.1 miles of running distance. Participants will loop around Arizona Boardwalk, passing through areas where monsters are said to roam freely. A virtual option has been introduced for those unable to attend in person.
The race kicks off at 7:30 PM with two participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk: Fee $38.95 (Early bird registration closes on September 30th at the reduced rate of $33.46)
- Virtual Run: Fee $28.11

On race day, pick up your bib and timing chip from Arizona Boardwalk starting noon on October 29th until 7 PM or while supplies last. Bring appropriate running gear suitable for cool evening temperatures; there is a small risk of light rain. The start location is at Arizona Boardwalk in downtown Scottsdale, AZ.
Participants must be at least 13 years old to register; younger runners can participate virtually if they prefer not to attend on race day. First-timers should ensure they have their ID and any special items needed for costume-friendly running.
