This friendly race takes place around Northampton’s scenic Washlands, offering runners of every ability a chance to enjoy well-maintained paths and trails. The event features a flexible format that allows participants to set their own pace and distance within a 7-hour window. The minimum requirement is just 3 kilometers, with full lap distances ranging from 4.37 miles (or approximately 7 kilometers), though the exact route may be adjusted based on health and safety reviews conducted closer to race day. Younger runners can choose between shorter turn points at 3km or 5km marks to comply with UK Athletics guidelines for their age group, while more seasoned athletes have the option of aiming for longer distances like half marathons (21 kilometers), full marathons (42 kilometers), and even ultra runs beyond that. A 50-kilometer distance is also available. Upon completion of your chosen distance, you’ll receive a themed penguin medal celebrating your achievement. If you run at least the half-marathon distance or more, you can collect corresponding pins to add to your medal ribbon as recognition for your efforts. The Penguin Plod offers a variety of amenities and perks: - Aid Stations: Located conveniently at both the start/finish line and throughout each lap. - Goody Bag: All finishers receive a goody bag filled with treats, including vegan options. - Vegan Options: Special consideration for dietary needs is taken into account across all event offerings. Participants are encouraged to arrive early on race day to pick up their numbers at the registration area and familiarize themselves with the course. A designated space will be available for runners to leave personal items like bags, though it’s advised not to store valuable belongings there unsupervised. The venue features accessible restroom facilities but lacks changing areas or showers; therefore, plan accordingly regarding your attire and post-race needs.
