The Railway Relay

The Railway Relay offers an exhilarating team challenge along the picturesque Formartine and Buchan Way, a shared-use path that once served as a railway line now winding through rural Scotland. This unique race takes place on Sunday, 2nd August 2026, from Peterhead to Ellon.
Competitors will experience nine relay legs ranging between two to four miles each, covering a total distance of approximately twenty-seven miles. The event features a traffic-free route that allows participants to fully immerse themselves in the scenic beauty and tranquil atmosphere along this historic path.
Teams can choose their preferred mode of transport for moving between legs: either by car with a designated driver or cycling alongside the runners. This flexibility ensures an enjoyable experience for all team members, regardless of running ability.
Registration is £40 per team, accommodating groups of three to five participants. Under-18s may be permitted upon special arrangement; interested teams should contact Steven Garden, Race Director, through the event's "Essentials" tab on their website (www.therailwayrelay.co.uk).
Participants are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled start time and check in with the Race Director for any last-minute instructions or adjustments.
Upon crossing the finish line, teams will be greeted by a free drink—beer or soft drinks—and a complimentary buffet meal. Each team member also receives a finisher's medal as recognition of their achievement.
