Experience the rugged beauty of Canaan, West Virginia, as you embark on an old-school backcountry race. This single-loop course challenges both seasoned runners and newcomers alike with its 24-mile journey through the heart of Dankness...Canaan. The event is organized by the Blackwater Bicycle Association to raise funds for community initiatives. The race kicks off in Davis at River Road Trail, leading you on a scenic route that winds through Yellow Birch before ascending into the virtual creek bed known as The Davis Trail (Allegheny Trail). From there, it's a climb up Plantation Trail and then a descent onto Fire Trail #6. As you continue along Canaan Loop Road (Forest Road 13), enjoy several miles of gravel terrain until reaching a water station. The course takes you down Fire Trail 3 back to Plantation before looping back on Davis Trail (Allegheny Trail) and descending towards Blackwater Falls State Park via the River Road Trail. For duo teams, this is where your partner will tag up for the next leg. After refueling at the full aid station in Davis City Park Pavilion, you'll tackle the technical rock sections of Splashdam Trail. The second half of the race features a steady climb to Hoodoo and a descent through Moon Rocks, where locals have found their preferred line. The final push comes on Trials Trail, demanding both endurance and skill. Participants are advised to bring wet lube and extra chamois cream for comfort during this challenging terrain. The race begins at 10:00 AM from the River Road Trail (South side of Route 32 Bridge), with an aid station located there as well. The finish line is situated at Camp 70 Trailhead, offering a rewarding end to your journey through nature's challenges. Post-race festivities include a delicious meal courtesy of SIRIANNI'S Pizza and the inclusion of a free t-shirt in race entry fees. Registration opens at 8:30 AM at Davis City Park Pavilion; please park there as well. A porta potty is available on-site, ensuring your comfort throughout the event. For those who wish to arrive early or need additional parking space, Davis Riverfront Park across from Shop N Save provides an alternative option for vehicle access and setup. Remember to be present by 8:30 AM at Davis City Park Pavilion to sign waivers, collect race tags, and claim free t-shirts.
