The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset

About the Event

On Saturday, May 8th, 2027, the Pocomoke YMCA will host The Ripper – Sunrise to Sunset, an epic timed distance challenge that stretches from dawn until dusk. Participants have exactly 14 hours and one minute to run as far as they can on a rugged 3.3-mile trail course. As the sun rises at precisely 5:58 AM, runners are free to push themselves continuously or take strategic breaks throughout the day.
The challenging loop features rolling mountain bike hills with some of the terrain being single-track trails covered in roots and rocks, demanding both focus and agility from participants. The well-stocked aid station located near the pavilion offers a variety of hydration options along with Tailwind Nutrition, soda, sweets, salty snacks, ensuring runners stay fueled throughout their journey.
YMCA facilities including bathrooms and showers are available for all competitors to freshen up between laps. Runners can set up personal rest areas in a beach-style layout within the field, allowing them to establish their own space or join friends nearby. The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions but may only be canceled under extreme circumstances that prevent EMS and support staff from functioning safely.
Participants must adhere strictly to rules such as keeping bib numbers visible at all times, packing out any litter generated during the race, staying on designated trails, and not allowing pacers or dogs on course. Early starts are prohibited while late starts and early finishes remain permitted. No refunds will be issued if cancellation occurs due to unforeseen circumstances.
The top three male and female finishers receive awards for their efforts along with a special keepsake item and recognition piece upon completion of the race. This event is organized by Algonquin Ultras, an eco-friendly nonprofit focused on expanding trail systems in Delmarva through community support and collaboration with local government entities to ensure safe and enjoyable racing experiences.
The Ripper offers runners not only a test of endurance but also camaraderie among participants as they push their limits amidst breathtaking scenery. It promises to be one memorable day for all who dare to take on this unique challenge under the changing skies from sunrise to sunset.
