The Sawmill Gauntlet

The Sawmill Gauntlet returns to Laurens, South Carolina on December 4th, bringing with it a unique challenge for runners and ruck participants alike. This event is held at the intersection of Neely Ferry Road and Sawmill Park, where competitors gather to take part in one of two divisions: Running or Ruck.
On race morning, expect temperatures around freezing point as runners start their journey along the 2.5-mile loop course. The trail conditions are firm but slightly soft underfoot, providing a consistent yet challenging surface for both legs and rucksacks. With an early December chill in the air, participants will need to manage not only physical endurance but also cold weather exposure.
Since its inception, The Sawmill Gauntlet has become a hallmark of mental fortitude and discipline within Laurens' running community. Over the years, it has attracted runners from various parts of South Carolina who are drawn by the race's focus on suffering management rather than speed or comfort. Proceeds from each registration contribute to local scholarships for high school athletes striving towards college opportunities.
The course itself is a 2.5-mile loop that winds through Sawmill Park and along Neely Ferry Road, offering scenic views of the surrounding woodlands as participants circle back to the starting point every hour. Each lap begins precisely at intervals of 45 minutes, with runners required to complete one full circuit within each window before the next starts.
