The Scary Scamper

Celebrate Halloween in style at The Scary Scamper, hosted by The Florence Ghostbusters and presented by Sheffield Cross-Country on October 23rd, 2026. This unique race takes place in the heart of downtown Florence, Alabama, along North Walnut Street between East Mobile and Market Streets.
Participants can choose from a thrilling 5K run or a family-friendly one-mile fun run. Both races start and finish at the bustling intersection where N. Walnut St. meets E. Mobile St., offering runners an exciting route through historic neighborhoods adorned with Halloween decorations. The event promises to be both spooky and festive, with plenty of treats along the way.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each race category, while creative costumes are encouraged for all participants. Prizes await those who show up dressed as their favorite Halloween characters, judged by none other than The Florence Ghostbusters themselves. Costumes can range from classic ghosts and goblins to elaborate themed outfits.
Registration includes a commemorative t-shirt available at pre-registration or limited quantities on race day. For the 5K run, fees are $35 per person, while the one-mile fun run costs $25. Both options provide participants with a bib number for easy identification during the event and throughout the festive atmosphere that surrounds it.
The Scary Scamper kicks off at 6:00 PM sharp with the start of the 5K race, followed by the shorter but equally enjoyable one-mile fun run beginning at 7:00 PM. Awards will be presented to winners immediately after each event concludes around 8:00 PM.
All proceeds from The Scary Scamper go directly towards supporting Sheffield Cross-Country's initiatives, including funding uniforms, race fees, and travel expenses for team members.
