TK 5K

The TK 5K, now in its third year, is more than just a race; it's a tribute to Terry Kelly, a beloved father whose memory lives on through the vibrant skateboarding community of Fernandina Beach. This annual run honors Terry Kelly and his passion for bringing people together at events like the inaugural skate festival back in 2016.
The event kicks off early morning with participants gathering around the Poe Pinson Skate Park, named after local Olympian Poe Pinson who placed fifth in the Paris Olympics of 2024. The race route closely follows that of the popular Shrimp Festival Run but concludes at a poignant spot where Terry took his last steps before experiencing a heart attack during an event.
Early registration for both the 5K and virtual options is available until August 14, 2026, with fees set at $30. The one-mile run costs $12 throughout this period. Late entries from August 15 to August 21 will be charged a higher fee of $35, while day-of registration stands at $40.
Participants can pick up their race packets early at Game Changers Running Company located in Fernandina Beach on Friday, August 29, 2026, from noon until 7pm. Race-day packet pickup starts promptly at the skate park by 7am for those who opt to register later or prefer convenience.
A unique highlight of this race is its innovative award system: top male and female winners will receive actual skateboards as prizes, while the first three finishers in each age group (9 & under, 10-19, etc.) will be awarded trophies crafted from retired skateboard wood.
In addition to the inspiring atmosphere, Mythic Running partners with the event by providing SKRATCH HYDRATION at water stations and offering a discount on Goodr sunglasses for participants.
The race also supports environmental sustainability through its zero-waste strategy, encouraging runners to bring their own reusable bottles instead of disposable cups. A coffee truck will be available post-race for those looking to refuel with some caffeine before heading home or catching the rest of Terry Kelly Skate Festival at 1pm that afternoon.
Organized by Friends of Fernandina Skate Park (FFSP), a non-profit dedicated to fostering healthy outdoor activities and community bonds, this event aims not only to honor Terry's legacy but also to inspire young skaters through its 'Boards for Boarders' program. This initiative provides skateboards to youth who might otherwise lack access, promoting an active lifestyle that builds character and lifelong friendships.
