The highlight of the day is undoubtedly reserved for elite runners who qualify based on their best times from previous years or current performances. These top-tier athletes will compete in separate races for women and men starting at 10:20 AM and 10:40 AM, respectively. The Elite Girls Race features a prize purse totaling $325 with first place earning $150, second taking home $100, and third receiving $75 in gift cards. Similarly, the Elite Boys race offers substantial prizes for the top three finishers. Throughout the day, runners will navigate through challenging terrain that includes varied elevations and winding trails characteristic of cross-country courses. The event’s course records provide a benchmark for aspiring athletes: 17:09 minutes for girls in the 5K category and an impressive 15:29 minutes for boys. Additionally, middle school racers can aim to break the existing marks of 13:29 minutes for girls and 10:46 minutes for boys over a two-mile distance. About Glenwood

Glenwood is the largest city in and the county seat of Mills County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,073 in the 2020 census, a decline from 5,358 in 2000. The city was originally founded by Mormons, before they left for Utah. After the Second World War, Glenwood became a center for meatpacking, particularly kosher meatpacking. Glenwood was impacted by significant flooding in 2019.
