THE CHALLENGE RACE 41 is a JAAF-certified event on a riverside course that is billed as Japan's fastest, with no more than 2 m of elevation difference. Distances run from a 1 mile dash to the full marathon, with 5K, 10K, 30K and half marathon in between. The loop is 10 km, starting and finishing near Toda Bridge Athletics Stadium on the Arakawa riverbed in Itabashi, with a first gun at 9:30 on race day. Pacers called THE PACER lead 12 groups for the full marathon, half marathon and 10K, with full marathon targets from 2:30 to 4:20. Water stations sit every 3 to 4 km offering sports drink, water and salt tablets, and food is served once every 10 km, including sports yokan. Runners line up only five minutes before the start, so they can warm up almost until the gun. Entry fees are 11,000 yen for the full marathon, 7,700 yen for the half and 30K, 5,500 yen for the 10K and 3,300 yen for the 5K and 1 mile. Time limits range from 12 minutes for the mile to 4 hours 30 minutes for the full. The race is a qualifier for the R.LEAGUE runners' league, whose registered members get 10% off the entry fee, and it is a partner event of TEAM ONE TOKYO, a program that offers a chance at a Tokyo Marathon entry. No parking is provided at the venue, and there is no baggage check.
