Tommy Runs – Sunday 1st November 2026
Join us for Tommy Runs, returning on the Sunday before Remembrance Day to celebrate and honor the spirit of resilience and remembrance. The race takes place along Seaham's picturesque seafront, offering runners a blend of road, promenade, and coastal trail routes.
The event kicks off at the iconic Tommy War Memorial Statue, located in North Terrace, which stands as a poignant tribute to soldiers from World War I. Created by artist Ray Lonsdale, this statue is officially titled "1101" (Eleven-O-One) and depicts a reflective soldier during the first minute of peace following the Armistice.
Participants will start their run with a moment of silence at the memorial before setting off on either the 5km or 10km courses. The shorter route, ideal for runners aged 11 and above, features just 80 feet of elevation gain across closed roads, making it perfect for those aiming to chase personal bests.
The longer 10km course, open only to participants age 15 and older, winds through the scenic coastal landscape. This mixed terrain route offers stunning views along Seaham's seafront, providing both a challenging and visually rewarding experience.
Both races have a strict cut-off time of 90 minutes due to road closures and are designed exclusively for runners; walkers are not permitted on this course. Timing is provided by Timing Up North with live chip-timing technology ensuring instant and accurate results for all participants upon crossing the finish line.
Upon completion, every runner will receive an event medal, a commemorative t-shirt, and a snack to fuel their post-race recovery. Parking information can be found in Seaham's public car parks.
This year’s Tommy Runs is proud to support Louie's Trust, a local charity based in Sunderland that provides essential care for children with rare or undiagnosed conditions and their families during hospital stays. Participants will have the opportunity to make donations directly through registration.
