Totally Awesome CASA Costume 5K

The Totally Awesome CASA Costume 5K returns to Lawrence, Kansas on August 1st, 2026. This family-friendly event in North Lawrence offers a certified 5K run for participants of all ages and abilities.
Race morning finds the streets lively with families gathering at Douglas County Park. The atmosphere is festive as runners prepare to don their costumes, surrounded by lush greenery and playgrounds where children play. Participants will start from the park's main entrance on Maple Street, a familiar neighborhood lined with mature trees that offer shade during the race.
This event has been running for several years now, thanks to Douglas County CASA’s dedication to promoting awareness about Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and their work in our community. Each year, hundreds of runners participate, contributing to a cause close to many hearts. The 5K not only raises funds but also educates the public on the importance of advocating for children in need.
The course venue is Douglas County Park, known for its hard and dry surface that ensures smooth running conditions throughout the race. The route winds through the park’s scenic trails before finishing back at the start line near Maple Street. Runners can expect to experience a gradual elevation gain with no significant hills, making it suitable for both experienced runners and newcomers.
