Explore the tranquil landscapes of Kenosha and Racine at the annual Tour de Turtle, organized by the Kenosha Racine Bike Club. This cycling event supports Pringle Nature Center, making it not just an athletic challenge but also a celebration of nature. Early bird registration extends until July 5th at 11:59 PM to secure your spot and save $10—don't miss out! Choose from four distinct routes that cater to various skill levels: - The Family Route (8.8 miles) commences with a mass start at 10 AM, led by experienced riders. Enjoy the ride along roads and bike trails before stopping for refreshments of gummy bears and water on Haribo trail.
- For those seeking more adventure, embark on the 21-mile route that starts and ends at Pringle Nature Center. This journey includes approximately 500 feet in elevation gain. - The 52-mile route also begins and concludes at Pringle Nature Center but features a rest stop at KD Park with about 1,600 feet of elevation gain. Perfect for those aiming to get close to the metric century mark or test their endurance. - For ambitious cyclists, the 27-mile route starts and ends at KD Park Rest Stop, offering an elevation challenge of around 900 feet. This route can be combined with others to achieve a full century distance: simply complete it after the 52 mile route for a metric century experience or add it along with the 21 and 52 miles. The ultimate challenge is the 100-mile (century) route, combining all three longer routes. Starting at Pringle Nature Center, you'll navigate through Genoa City before returning to KD Park Rest Stop, then complete your journey by heading back to Pringle via the shorter routes. Event highlights include scenic roads and trails rich with wildlife, particularly turtles from the nature center's collection—a must-see for families and cycling enthusiasts alike. The event schedule ensures a smooth day: registration opens at 6:45 AM on race day; mass starts are welcome anytime after check-in; KD Park Rest Stop will be open by 9:00 AM. Mark your calendars for July 11th, as you prepare to pedal through these picturesque surroundings. See you there!
