The Trail de la Citadelle, now in its 12th edition, stands as an unmissable highlight on Cambrai's sporting calendar. This unique race invites runners to explore the city’s three stunning public gardens through a winding course that seamlessly blends natural beauty with historic charm and athletic challenge.
At the heart of this event is the Palais des Grottes, which serves as both the starting point and finish line for all participants. The vibrant atmosphere here sets the tone for an engaging day filled with camaraderie and energy. This year marks a significant milestone in the race’s history, as organizers have introduced electronic timing provided by ChronOpale to ensure precise tracking of every participant's performance.
The event features several trails catering to various skill levels:
- Trail Poudrière: A challenging route that begins at 09:00 and tests runners with its twists and turns through the city’s lush green spaces.

- Marche "Charles Quint": For those looking for a more leisurely pace, this walk starts at 09:30 and offers an enjoyable way to experience Cambrai's scenery.
- Trail Camberlot (1 & 2): These courses cater to runners of different abilities. The first wave begins at 09h50 followed by the second starting shortly after at 10h10, each offering unique segments through scenic trails and urban paths.

- Trail Nimègue: This trail kicks off at 10:45 for a challenging yet rewarding journey that showcases Cambrai's rich history and natural beauty.
- Trail Vauban: Also starting at 10:45, this route provides an exhilarating experience through diverse terrains within the city limits.
Awards ceremonies are scheduled throughout the day to celebrate participants' achievements. The first round of awards takes place at 10h50 for those completing the Poudrière and Camberlot trails, followed by a second ceremony at 13:00 honouring runners who completed Nimègue and Vauban.
The race is open to all levels from seasoned athletes to casual enthusiasts looking for an engaging day out. Participants can collect their bibs between 07h30 and the start of each trail, ensuring ample time to prepare before hitting the scenic routes around Cambrai’s historic landmarks and gardens.
