Trail de l'Améthyste

The Trail de l’Améthyste 2026 is a prominent mountain running event set in the heart of the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park. Scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, the race is organized by the Sports Sentiers Pays de Sauxillanges association in partnership with Issoire Sports Nature. The event is named after the precious purple gemstones historically found in the region and features technical tracks across the volcanic and forested landscapes of Sauxillanges and its neighboring communes. Known for its challenging vertical gains and authentic Auvergne atmosphere, the event emphasizes environmental responsibility, requiring all participants to carry their own reusable cups.

The 2026 edition offers a wide variety of distances, ranging from an expert ultra-trail to youth-focused discovery runs and a non-competitive Nordic walk. All competitive trails depart from the Place de la Promenade.

Sauxillanges is a historic village located in the Puy-de-Dôme department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Situated within the Livradois-Forez mountains, it has a population of approximately 1,300 residents. The village is famous for its former Cluniac priory, which played a major role in the religious history of medieval France. Bib collection takes place at the Gymnase – Stade des Prairies, where participants on the 12 km, 23 km, and 37 km routes receive a welcome gift. The 37 km Expert course is particularly demanding, featuring a strict time cut-off at km 15.5 to ensure athlete safety. For families and children, the morning is packed with non-timed races and walks, making the Place de la Promenade a lively hub of activity. The finish line experience is heightened by the presence of local partners and the traditional celebratory meal, provided athletes have booked their spots in advance.
