The Trail of Hope against Cancer is set to take place on Sunday, October 11th at Dammartin-en-Grèves, starting at 9 am. Organized by the Sports Association of Firefighters from Yvelines, this event aims to raise awareness and funds for firefighters battling cancer, a disease that has affected many in their ranks. Firefighters are often exposed to toxic substances during fire suppression activities despite protective measures, increasing their risk of developing cancers linked to smoke inhalation. This reality underscores the importance of supporting these brave individuals who protect our communities every day. The event will feature various distances suitable for all levels and abilities: a 24 km trail run, a shorter 12 km option, an 8 km introductory course, as well as 8 km and 12 km Nordic walking routes. Additionally, there is a fun 2 km race designed specifically for children. Proceeds from the event will be split between RIFS (Risks, Fires, Smoke, Health), which works to recognize cancer risks associated with smoke exposure and supports affected families, and Gustave Roussy Institute, one of France’s leading research institutions dedicated to fighting cancer. Beyond being a sporting challenge, this trail offers an opportunity for solidarity and community engagement. Participants will enjoy a day filled with interactive stands focused on raising awareness about the dangers of pollutants like smoke and providing guidance on first aid techniques. The Trail of Hope is committed to inclusivity, welcoming individuals in all circumstances including those living with disabilities.
