The Foulée du Haut Pilat, scheduled for October 11, 2026, brings runners to the picturesque town of Saint-Genest-Malifaux. The centerpiece is the MARATRAIL du Haut Pilat, a challenging 42-kilometer route that winds through the stunning landscapes and water sources of the region, offering an ideal preparation ground for events like the Sainté-Lyon or Sainte Trail Urbain. With over 1,100 meters of elevation gain, this course features technical single-track trails and breathtaking vistas. In addition to the MARATRAIL, three shorter races cater to a variety of skill levels: - The 26-kilometer trail offers runners panoramic views from multiple vantage points while exploring lesser-known paths near Cotatay Dam and high-altitude springs. This route provides a balance between elevation gain—785 meters—and scenic exploration. - For those seeking an intermediate challenge, the 14-kilometer course invites participants to discover the dense forests of Pilat before easing into a gentle finish around Plats Reservoir in Saint-Genest-Malifaux's green zone. This trail is celebrated for its playful and engaging route design. - The shortest race, at just 7 kilometers, welcomes runners with an open start format from Gilles Riocreux Park. Participants can set off individually or as a group every fifteen minutes across three waves throughout the morning, ensuring flexibility and fun along Plats Reservoir's waterside trails. Children aged between six to eleven (born in 2012-2021) also have their own special events starting at 11 AM. These races take place within Saint-Genest-Malifaux’s green zone, offering a safe and exciting environment for young trail enthusiasts. Sponsored by Chocolat des Princes to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Les Grêlons du Pilat, this event promises not only competitive racing but also an engaging day out in one of France's most beautiful natural settings.
