Trail du Lac de Villerest

Welcome to the seventh edition of Trail Nocturne, an exhilarating race organized by Week&sport and supported by US Villerest and the town of Villerest. Set against the serene backdrop of Lac de Villerest, this annual event promises a unique blend of scenic beauty and challenging terrain under the moonlit sky.
The race village is located at La Papeterie Hall on the lake's shore, offering easy access to all participants. The evening kicks off with music and festivities as runners prepare for their respective distances along the Gorges de la Loire, known for its breathtaking views during twilight hours.
This year’s edition features four distinct courses tailored to various skill levels:
- Tour du Lac (42 km / 1250 m D+): This full circuit around the lake is a true test of endurance and navigation. With stunning panoramic vistas at sunset, it's an ideal training ground for those aiming to tackle events like Sainté-Lyon.
- Grand-Duc (30 km / 650 m D+): Combining technical sections with forest trails and unobstructed views over the lake, this course is designed for experienced runners looking to push their limits. Starting just before nightfall ensures an unforgettable nocturnal immersion.
- Échappée Nocturne (15 km / 350 m D+): A balanced route that introduces newcomers to trail running under starlit skies. The mix of wooded paths and runnable sections creates a rhythmic experience, perfect for solo runners or pairs seeking camaraderie in the dark.
- Run Night (9 km / 190 m D+): For those new to night racing, this shorter course provides an introduction into trail running with front lights. Held in a secure environment and accompanied by lively music, it's a festive way to dip your toes into nighttime competition.
Additionally, guided hikes of 9 and 15 kilometers will be available for those who prefer walking the trails at their own pace without the competitive edge. Both runners and hikers can look forward to post-event activities including live DJ sets and musical performances that enhance the evening’s ambiance.
Safety measures are paramount; all participants must bring a headlamp, while costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. On-site facilities include changing rooms and showers located at La Lie football stadium just one kilometer away from La Papeterie Hall, ensuring runners stay comfortable throughout their journey.
Registration is available online for discounted rates or on the day with an additional fee based on availability. For children’s races, pre-registration through a dedicated link ensures entry into non-timed events.
The event schedule includes:
- 13:00 - Race Village opens / Dossard collection begins
- 15:00 - Start of 42 km trail race (with elevation gain)
- 16:00 - Children's races commence
- 16:30 - Launch of the 30 km route
- 18:00 - Kickoff for both the 15 km and 14 km hike routes
- 19:30 - Commencement of the 9 km run / 8 km walk
Post-race celebrations include podium presentations, awards ceremonies, and a dinner option with pasta boxes tailored to athletes' needs.
