The 32nd Annual Trailblazer Race invites runners and walkers alike for an exhilarating morning of family-friendly activities set against the stunning backdrop of Shoreline Park in Mountain View. This beloved community event features both running races and walking options, all designed to showcase the scenic beauty and serene atmosphere of Stevens Creek Trail. Participants can choose from a 10K run or a more leisurely 5K walk that meanders along the shaded trails near Evelyn Avenue Bridge, offering runners and walkers alike an opportunity to enjoy nature while staying active. The event also includes a special 3-mile (5K) walking route for those preferring a gentler pace through the scenic Stevens Creek Trail. The race day schedule kicks off at 7:30 am with check-in and registration opening, followed by the start of both races at 8:30 am and 8:45 am respectively. A fun Kids' Mile Fun Run starts shortly after for children up to age ten, ensuring that young participants have a memorable experience too. The race course is meticulously designed to highlight the natural beauty around Shoreline Park with views of wildlife, salt ponds, and panoramic vistas of surrounding mountains. The event promotes community engagement and awareness towards environmental conservation efforts along Stevens Creek Trail – an initiative led by Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, a dedicated non-profit organization committed to extending this trail network from San Francisco Bay into the Santa Cruz Mountains. In addition to competitive races, racegoers can look forward to free activities for kids aged 10 years old and under. These include games, crafts, face painting, and other engaging entertainments designed specifically with younger participants in mind. Parents are encouraged to participate alongside their children or enjoy refreshments at the festival area while keeping an eye out for announcements regarding on-site activities. All registered runners receive custom event t-shirts, participation medals, finisher certificates via download, plus access to race day photos and a chance to win prizes through raffle tickets provided upon registration. Early registrants by August 30th are guaranteed their preferred shirt size; otherwise sizes will be distributed based on availability at packet pickup. Volunteers play an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of this event from setup through cleanup, providing essential support throughout race day activities. Those interested can sign up online to join as volunteers and receive perks such as free T-shirts and entry into prize drawings. This year’s Trailblazer Race not only celebrates fitness but also raises funds for important trail development projects within the Stevens Creek watershed area—highlighting its significance in fostering community pride and environmental stewardship among local residents. Join us on September 26th to experience this cherished tradition firsthand!
