Trails 4 Tails

About the Event

Trails 4 Tails returns to Codorus State Park in Hanover, Pennsylvania on September 19th, inviting runners from across the region for a challenging yet rewarding day of trail running.
The race offers three distinct challenges: a grueling 40-mile ultra run, a team relay option with seven legs at approximately 5.72 miles each, and a shorter but equally scenic 25K distance. All races begin and end at Pavilion #1 within the park grounds, offering participants access to fully stocked aid stations equipped with Tailwind for hydration, Coke and Ginger Ale for energy boosts, and local favorites like bacon, pierogies, grilled cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, pickles, and a variety of snacks.
On race day, runners will encounter a mix of terrain including paved roads, open fields, winding singletrack trails, and scenic stretches along the lake shoreline. The course passes through notable landmarks such as Rummel Farm's Chestnut Orchard and the historic Mary Ann Furnace area, weaving together natural beauty with rich local history.
Since its inception in 2018, Trails 4 Tails has become a beloved event for both ultra-runners and trail enthusiasts alike. Each year sees an increasing number of participants, making it not just a race but also a celebration of the running community's spirit of adventure and camaraderie. The funds raised from this event support local wildlife conservation efforts through donations to relevant organizations.
The Trails 4 Tails course is known for its varied terrain — predominantly firm trails with some sections that are slightly soft underfoot, along with approximately one mile on pavement. Runners can expect the route to include rolling hills and a series of loops within Codorus State Park, which offers picturesque scenery throughout each lap. The aid station at Pavilion #1 serves as both start/finish line and central hub for fueling up during race day.
Weather in Hanover typically sees average temperatures around 19.9°C with highs reaching up to 24.6°C and lows dropping down to about 15.2°C on September mornings, making it a comfortable yet challenging environment for running.
