TTC Lakeside Aquathlon (Autumn)

The Tyne Triathlon Club Lakeside Aquathlon offers an exciting opportunity for athletes of all ages and skill levels to test their mettle in this unique multisport event. Nestled within North Tyneside, the race takes full advantage of one of the area's premier swimming facilities and a scenic route that winds around Killingworth Lake.
Participants will start with a refreshing dip in the pool before transitioning into a run along Great Lime Road, passing through picturesque landscapes dotted with lush woodlands surrounding the Lakeside Centre. The event caters to both novices looking for an introduction to multisport racing and seasoned athletes seeking a challenging day out.
The race is part of the Regional Junior Grand Prix series, allowing competitors to vie against some of the best in their age groups or simply push themselves against the clock. Whether you're 8 years old or older, there's no restriction on who can enter; all that matters is your willingness to take part and give it your best.
For those new to aquathlons, here’s a quick guide:
- Start at the designated time in the pool.
- Swim the required distance (varying by age group).
- Exit via the shallow end of the pool.
- Quickly change into running gear if necessary.
- Run along Great Lime Road for the specified distance.
Timing begins from your start moment and ends when you cross the finish line, so every second counts. Efficient transitions are key to achieving a fast overall time. Athletes can choose their attire based on personal preference; tri suits are ideal but not mandatory. Essentials include goggles, swim caps (optional), proper running shoes, and safety pins or number belts if needed.
The event features several categories:
- TriStars Start for 8-year-olds: Swim 50m (2 lengths) followed by a run of 600m.
- TriStars 1 for 9 to 10 years old: Swim 150m (6 lengths), then run 1,500m.
- TriStars 2 for 11 to 12 years old: Swim 200m (8 lengths) and run 2,000m.
- TriStars 3 for 13 to 14-year-olds: Swim 300m (12 lengths), followed by a 3,000m run.
- Youths aged 15 to 16 years old: Swim 400m (16 lengths) and then cover 4,000m on foot.
- Juniors/Seniors for those 17+ years old: Swim 500m (20 lengths), followed by a run of 5,000m.
Competitors will receive trophies in various categories including overall and female placements. British Triathlon mandates public liability insurance which is included with membership or can be purchased separately through the Race Pass option.
Swimmers are organized based on their speed: adults start from slowest to fastest while junior racers compete within age groups without timing considerations for a more equitable race experience.
For parking, head towards Matalan Car Park after passing Lakeside Centre onto the roundabout and following subsequent directions until you find the entrance on your right.
Registration opens at 7:30 am in the main hall of the Lakeside Centre where participants will receive their numbers before attending a briefing scheduled for 8:10 am.
