Tunxis Trail Races

The Tunxis Trail Races return this fall with an exciting twist—shorter distances that challenge runners while offering stunning scenery. Participants can choose between the 8K (5 miles) and the 5K (3.1 miles), each course weaving through the picturesque landscapes of Burlington, Connecticut.
The event kicks off at 10 AM for the longer distance race, followed by a ten-minute gap before the shorter race begins at 10:10 AM. Both races are part of the Blue Blazed hiking trail system managed by the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association, providing runners with an immersive experience through nature.
Organized as a fundraiser by the Burlington Land Trust, these races promise to be both challenging and rewarding. The courses feature a mix of terrain including double track paths, single-track trails, rugged half tracks, stretches off the beaten path, and even some areas where brush might still line your route if maintenance hasn’t been recent.
The 8K course takes runners through several iconic landmarks within Burlington’s trail network: the Connecticut State Trout Hatchery, Nassahegan State Forest, and the enigmatic Devil's Kitchen. Each landmark adds a unique element to the race experience, making it more than just a run but an adventure in nature.
