The Turner Landscape Fell Race is an exhilarating challenge for experienced fell runners, offering a scenic tour of the eastern side of Duddon Valley. This race breaks up school holidays with its engaging course and straightforward navigation. As part of this year’s Lakes Grand Prix series, competitors will navigate through fast lines on quiet fells, except for the challenging summit of Old Man. The event is designed to test runners’ skills in map reading and compass use while enjoying a quieter landscape compared to more popular peaks. With an entry limit of 200 runners, early registration is essential as there are no entries allowed on race day. Camping at Turner Hall Farm is available for those who wish to stay overnight; contact the farm directly for accommodations. Parking will be provided at the same location with a £3 fee per vehicle—be sure to bring exact change. Before setting off, all runners must pass a kit check that ensures they are carrying the mandatory equipment according to FRA guidelines. This includes waterproof clothing, map and compass, whistle, hat, gloves, and emergency food. Non-compliance will result in disqualification without exception. Race numbers should be clearly visible on your vest at all times during the event. Running or walking poles are not permitted, emphasizing traditional navigation techniques with a focus solely on map and compass skills. Any use of GPS devices is strictly forbidden unless it’s an emergency situation, after which you must declare yourself non-competitive upon finishing. The race features several checkpoints: starting and ending at Turner Hall Farm (GR233964), passing through Grey Friar summit with a strict 85-minute cut-off time (GR260004). The course continues to Coniston Old Man summit (GR272978) before reaching White Pike summit (GR249956). No food or drink will be provided along the route, so runners must come prepared with their own supplies. Water stations are available but bring your own cups for hygiene reasons. Results from this event can be found on ukresults.net shortly after completion. Refunds cannot be issued once entries close at 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 6th, though places may be transferred to other runners up until that time. All proceeds generated by the race entry fees and parking charges go directly towards supporting Alzheimer's Research UK, ensuring your participation contributes positively beyond just personal achievement. In case of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances, funds will still support this cause as part of a commitment made upon registration. Male record holders include T Simpson with 01:21:39 in 2025 and Horsburgh for females at 01:37:04 set back in 2018. Join the ranks of those who have tackled this challenging yet rewarding course, immersing yourself in Duddon Valley’s natural beauty while pushing your fell running abilities to new heights. This event promises a blend of competitive spirit and scenic exploration for all participants ready to embrace the rugged terrain and precise navigation required along its route.
